SINGING COMPETITION QUALIFICATIONS

BEL CANTO ALASKA invites you to participate in our 3rd Anniversary Singing Competition. The mission statement of Bel Canto is quite simple: “To teach, encourage, and provide performance opportunities for classically-trained singers aged 25 and older, and to provide quality musical performances for the community.”

This flyer contains qualification and requirements information. The application form is also available. Please utilize it for yourself and/or share it with individuals you feel should know about it! As a singer, we encourage you to apply and as an instructor, we hope you will assist us in offering that encouragement. A singer in the competition:

• Must be a current resident of Alaska;
• Must be 25 years of age or older;
• Must NOT be a professional singer or studio teacher;
• Must currently be studying with a vocal teacher or coach;
• Must submit an application postmarked by May 2, 2012;
• Must prepare for performance four pieces (see details on application);
• Must provide his/her own accompanist;
• Must provide a music resume with their application;
• Must not be a previous winner of a Bel Canto Singing Competition.
*Note: Neither Bel Canto Alaska members or their immediate family members are eligible to participate in this competition.

After approval of their application, each contestant will be contacted regarding the time of their performance and additional information. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the competition and checks will be awarded after the evening program. Note: All winners will be required to perform at the Bel Canto concert: “Love and Other 4-Letter Words!” the evening of the competition - Saturday, June 2, 2012 in order to claim their prize. The competition and evening performance will be at the UAA Fine Arts Building Recital Hall, 3211 Providence Drive in Anchorage.

Bel Canto will present $1,950.00 in awards as follows:
